- From 12:00 a.m. on March 1, 2022, the new entry restriction for foreigners will be changed based on the New measures (27)* for strengthening border measures
- As a general rule, new entry for foreign nationals from all countries and regions will be suspended and new entry will be permitted only if there are “special circumstances”. (1) or (2) below, if the person in charge of receiving the foreign nationals in Japan completes the prescribed application in the Immigration Health Confirmation System (ERFS), the new entry will be permitted, assuming that there are “special circumstances” (tourist purposes are not permitted).
(1) New entry for short term stay (3 months or less) for business, employment, etc.
(2) New entry for long term stay
*The above measures apply to those who will enter and return to Japan after midnight (Japan time) on March 1, 2022 and who have completed the application in advance. - The person in charge of receiving a foreigners in the above measures refers to the company or organization that employs the foreign national or invites the foreign national for business or entertainment.

Review of border measures after March this year (Summary)
From March 1, 2022, the following measures will be taken as border measures.
- Changes to the waiting period at home after entry
- For those who have returned or entered Japan from designated countries/regions who have not been vaccinated with the third additional dose of vaccine shall be required to wait for 3 days at an accommodation facility secured by the quarantine station. If the result of the examination at the accommodation is negative, the person will not be required to wait at home after leaving the accommodation.
- For those who have returned or entered Japan from designated countries/region who have received the third additional dose of vaccine, in principle, they shall be required to wait at home for 7 days. However, if the result of a voluntary test taken after the third day of entry is negative, the person will not be required to stay at home.
- For those who have returned or entered Japan from countries/regions other than the designated countries/regions and who have not been vaccinated with the third additional dose of vaccine, in principle, they shall be required to stay at home for 7 days. If the result of the test taken voluntarily on or after the third day after entry is negative, the person will not be required to stay at home.
- For those who have returned or entered Japan from countries or regions other than the designated and who have received the third additional dose of vaccine will not be required to wait at home after arrival.
- Use of public transportation after arrival in Japan
The use of public transportation is permitted even during the waiting period at home, provided that the passenger is traveling to his/her home within 24 hours of arrival. - Designation countries/regions where mutants other than omicron strains are known to be dominant.
When a country/region where mutations other than omicron strains are known to be dominant is separately designated, the period of waiting at home for returnees/entrants from that country/region shall be 14 days. - Review of restrictions on new foreigners entering Japan
New foreigners will be allowed to enter Japan for purposes other than tourism, under the supervision of the person in charge of receiving them.
